Sports and enrichment opportunities give children opportunities to shine in ways outside of academics and are also vital to building a strong school community. All of our students are encouraged to try a sport or activity; even one they may not be familiar or comfortable with. Through these activities, teamwork is increased, confidence builds and new friendships are made.

As a student at Holy Cross School, all of our students, even those who live in communities outside South Portland, are eligible to play on sports teams through the South Portland Rec Department. This would include soccer, basketball (in grades 4&5), and Lacrosse, as well as various other Rec department activites.

In addition we offer:

• School sponsored basketball K-3 with other area Catholic schools
• School sponsored basketball 5-8 in Boys and Girls Club League
• Middle school tennis
• Middle school opportunities through Southern Maine Catholic Team (with other local Catholic Schools) for Soccer, Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track, and Softball and Baseball.

Enrichment Opportunities

• Odyssey of the Mind

Holy Cross has a very strong Odyssey of the Mind program. OM is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from Kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. We have qualified at least one team for the OM World Finals for the last 5 years.
